NO ONE SHOULD NEVER HAVE NO ONE

So I released this song…

No One Should Never Have No One

It’s just me and my guitar. It’s the same guitar I have played on my other records;
My Taylor 414-CE.

The song is a fantasy world within itself. It’s kind of a dark fairytale.

I have so many pictures in my head when I listen. Walking through some enchanted other-worldly forest. Losing all sense of time and space. Severing your ears off just so you’d listen because I have something real to say.

Being in a complete state of solitude puts you in touch with a fascination for things others may not notice in the world around them so much because you have so much more time to just think. Sometimes we make our own worlds. Some people fear being alone, some people cannot help it, some people may know nothing else other than their own companionship.

What if your thoughts burned away inside of you and you never shared them with anyone? Would you be ablaze?

Ablaze with the desire to share some part of yourself that meant something to you, for just the want of a conversation that mattered more than a passing pointless pontification, a nicety that was expected or a necessary but trivial interaction?

There is someone for everyone in this world but finding your people may not always be that easy.

It is much harder to stand alone, to be patient in the process and the knowing that you will one day be understood in the way in which you want to be and embraced for the person you truly are. Finding people to relate to is hard for me. I don’t surround myself with empty relationships or just be around others for the sake of it. I am not afraid to be alone and I have been alone for a long time.

Being alone can often lead to being misunderstood because most people have others around them to help shape their inner worlds and dialogue. When you choose to wait for the right people it can be lonely. Being alone can lead to its own rewards in finding oneself. Loneliness teaches you more about what is more important to observe and appreciate. You begin to see a little more.

It can be a strength. It is not a weakness. It is holding out for what is right. It is working on yourself for yourself. It is in the waiting for what is right for you and working on yourself that you thrive. It is the giving up of temporary comfort for the inevitably uncomfortable discomfort.

There have been times I have seen less people in my own personal space than I can count on my fingers in a whole year. I guess I am the product of my own self, not really influenced or swayed by the opinions of others, and in this respect it really matters.

I never wanted my music to be compared to the works of others. I am in my own world. There is not really much I don’t decide for myself.

Making decisions on your own 100% of the time can be pretty frustrating. Sometimes I wish that someone would at least choose or decide something for me, whether it’s a film to watch, a song to listen to or something to wear, see or do, whatever…

If something is decided by you 100% of the time it just has to be you, it must be you.

We are born alone, we will die alone. The very human need for companionship is so strong. It can break boundaries, surprise you and change your life beyond anything you knew. It can give you relationships you never thought possible, it can truly redesign you.

My spirit animal is running around in his own world right now, miles away and one day he will get here somehow…

The wolf and the raven signify so much more than two animals facing each other down on a bleak backdrop of white and speckled grey. In my story, the wolf has been cast out from the pack and wanders the world alone. There he meets a raven and together they strike up a bond. The raven, flying high above the world sees his own reflection in the ripples cast out by a stone dropped in a river. He realises how big the world is as the water ebbs away from him and he flies into the sky looking down at the ground below him.

The wolf, running through the forest finds the river and mistakes his own reflection for that of the raven flying above him. It overrides his instinct to kill the raven or see it as prey. They help each other and in nature this is true to the fact.

Wolves need a voice. They need our compassion and they need change.

Take them away from their environment and things change for the worse, ecosystems collapse and landscapes change to be so much less than what they were before. Other species become prominent and uncontrollable.

Untameable forests cannot grow if you leave them to be overridden by prey. They only ever thrive when you let the natural rhythm of nature assert itself and truly take its course. When you let what truly should be there just exist, that is the natural order of things.

In the case of wolves, the hunter became the hunted; hunted by us in vast numbers, controlled, taken away. This is something that truly affected me. I see the problem and the cause and I cannot help but be moved by this. If you have no voice of your own with words in a language that is understandable who will speak out for you?

So the message – No One Should Never Have No One – is of relevance here, for it stands up to be on the side of the misunderstood, the underdog and the unnecessarily demonised.

Ravens will follow wolves because they lead them to food they can find. Ravens warn wolves of other predators.

The wolf finds a companion in the raven through choice but not necessity because there are so many opposing factors in their willingness to remain together. They need each other in some way.

Wolves in the wild are threatened. They are often seen as a hindrance to people, livestock and the land which they territorialise. There are laws that govern their being here and the inhumane hunting of them as a species – the removal of their existence, the image people have shaped and created of them to be menaces, the ideas we have formed – can take away so much from an established ecosystem that inevitably collapses when they are no longer present.

Wolves in folklore and mythology are seen as spirit guides that may chase the sun and moon in the sky, wolves in conservation are referenced as needing to be protected. Wolves and ravens exist together in a dualistic synchronicity. Their very being here as one signals a healthy and thriving ecosystem that grows and endures. They are a true sign of symmetry in motion, belonging to and shaping a world we should not interfere with.

A good example of this begins with the ecological collapse of Yellowstone National Park, because after all of their being hunted, the park witnessed an absolute decline in just about every vital aspect of its environment, enrichment, and its natural order to function as the place it is meant to be. The reintroduction of wolves led to such immense change, progression and a flourishing natural order.

This song led me to a place I did not expect to find and as I found a deeper meaning in what I had written it became apparent that I had so much more to say, because it matters…
