EMMA RUGG:
Instantly recognisable as sounding like no one except herself Emma Rugg is a singer / songwriter creating music that encompasses an interplay of light and darkness…

Emma busked in her hometown of Hull for months on end to scrape together enough funds to record her first release, the album Isolated Impression  produced on her own label, Indreams Records. She recorded at Fairview Studios with producer John Spence (Def Leppard, Sisters of Mercy, Mostly Autumn) and received a myriad of glowing reviews sparking major label interest.

Stripped back songs stand squarely on their own strengths, often with sparse instrumentation emphasizing a glaringly obvious passion for fingerstyle guitar and a rock sensibility. The intimate and emotionally charged tracks featured on the record possess an exquisite melancholic sadness— they are a haunting, honest and affecting confessional booth.

Signalling a distinct musical shift, Emma’s E.P. Oceans / Depart was created both in the UK and USA and is largely influenced by retro and rock. Recorded at Fairview, Oceans – the song that won a People’s Music Award – is contagiously upbeat.

When I Looked At You,  produced by John Beland (The Flying Burrito Brothers, Linda Ronstadt), is one of two songs recorded in the USA. Depart  with its reflections on travel adventures moves into power ballad territory. The song was written on a flight home from Traverse City, Michigan, where Emma met singer / songwriter Henry Doss, with whom she has collaborated on recordings and tours. The two first spoke to one another live on BBC Radio and have since gone on to tour the East Coast and Mid-Atlantic region of the USA.

Emma’s music has been featured on radio, in theatre and on TV, and she has recorded and toured in the UK and America.
